Classic Albums Live take on Rush

In March of 1976, the Canadian rock music world was reawakened with the release of Rush’s 2112 album.

Forty-one years later, this classic is brought back to life by the ever-popular, Classic Albums Live, who will be performing the iconic album on December 2, 2017 at Shenkman Arts Centre.

“This show is going to be something special. Classic Albums Live performing Rush, in our nations capital – it feels right. Patriotic,” says Craig Martin, founder of Classic Albums Live.

At the time of its release, Rush’s 2112, was the band’s first commercial success and has become a signature record in their career. True to Classic Albums Live’s form, the album will be performed note for note, cut for cut. To recreate the power of Rush, nine musicians will light up the stage with the sounds of rock.

“The 2112 show was a massive undertaking. We took a deep breath and dug in,” says Martin on his blog. “I started adding more and more musicians to the show. For a trio – they made a big sound. No other trio in the history of rock made anywhere near as grand a sound.”

Rush have described themselves as “equal parts Led Zeppelin, Cream and King Crimson,” and today have a huge following throughout Canada and around the world, with songs still being played regularly on radio, and perform to sold out arenas around the globe.

Classic Albums Live offers Ottawa audiences a chance to experience this best seller in an intimate setting. They have been described as “Joyful! Thrilling!” by the Toronto Star, and “A must for music lovers” by Maclean’s.
